    Nancy is open and available wherever she goes. She actively engages the public, seeks out differing points of view and listens. Nancy is often a voice for the voiceless, and helps ensure a diverse representation in Chapel Hill’s decision making. She understands a single solution cannot be applied to everyone and every situation.

    When I meet Nancy in Chapel Hill, our conversations often lead us to town matters and I can see she is always thinking about local issues.

    She is conscientious about informing herself on topics concerning the town and about listening to what people have to say.

    Even before being elected 4 years ago, she closely followed Council matters. If you read her blog (https://chapelhillwatch.com/) you can see she is a pragmatic non-ideological person trying to do the best for her town. She is also a firm believer in affordable housing.

    Nancy is smart, courageous and dedicated to fixing what is wrong in the way our town works. She is not afraid to point out the way our town too often does a poor job of representing the people, providing affordable housing, green space, and dealing with flooding, livable scale of buildings etc. She is direct and calls it like she sees it.

    Nancy Oates has an independent, fact-based approach to making decisions that is grounded by an extensive institutional and historical perspective.
